This is a page with all manner of things, things that don’t really fit anywhere else in this website, information about the various creatures and plants we share this small bit of paradise with, book reviews by local writers and authors and just about anything else we can think of that might be fun to discuss here… So keep coming back to see what we have added to this section of our website.
Birds, snakes, frogs and plants… and that is just the start!
To start things off, we have a series of beautiful images and writings about local fauna and flora which Peter Storer has put together on the website of the Samford Commons, so click on the image below and you will be taken there. In case you were wondering, it is a Scarlet Sided Popplebonk – which of course you knew! Why, if it is a Scarlet sided thing does it have green/blue sides I wonder? Since writing the above, Peter has explained that it is because of the way light works with cameras, if you actually see one of these frogs in reality, you would see that they have red stripes along their groins, rather than their sides. So it is a reasonable name after all.

Short Stories:
Our short story page now has two stories in it, one a piece of fiction by Julie Martin, a powerful story of man’s inhumanity to man, but ends on a hopeful note, the other is a brief history of the Samford CSIRO site written by Rollo Beaufort Waite, who worked there for many years. All good stuff!

This is a collection of stories or poems that are based on the writer’s experiences, they could be sad, scary, exciting, happy or just about anything, just as long as it describes in some form something that happened to the writer.

Poetry:
A page where Poets can leap around and demonstrate how powerful words can be. So if you consider yourself to be a poet, or feel that perhaps you might be one, please do get in contact with us and we can see what might be possible with your work.
Drabbles:
Drabbles are a form of writing that has to be done with exactly 100 words – which if you think about it for a minute you will realise how extremely difficult this actually is. You have to get the entire plot of a story clearly understood, all its characters developed enough for the story to work, and make it interesting for the reader (and not simply on the grounds of being intrigued to see if the author has managed to meet the challenge) and use exactly 100 words to achieve this.

This is a collection of random thoughts, discoveries, useful information and anything else we find amusing.
