Write for Rights – Amnesty International
November 30, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
On November 30th the Community Library Samford is hosting a ‘Write for Rights’ event for Amnesty International. The campaign, all around the world, is focused on ten particular cases, all for young people, including a missing Uighur man taken from Egypt, two rescue workers in Greece charged with spying and people smuggling, and indigenous youth in Canada whose rivers have been poisoned with mercury. An Amnesty International member will have information about each case, petitions for signature and letter templates for anyone who would like to do more. These are not by any means the only injustices Amnesty International tackles. They are, in Australia, at the forefront of campaigns to stop the jailing of children under 14 in adult prisons.
Amnesty International is the world’s largest and most-respected human rights organisation. Intensive and often dangerous research informs campaigns against abuses of human rights around the world. These campaigns bring torturers to justice, change oppressive laws and free people jailed for voicing their opinions. Amnesty International is independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. Its members are a diverse and democratic movement of people who demand dignity, freedom, justice and equality for all.
